Flower Farming In Practice
August 27 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Foulden, Berwickshire TD15 1UL United Kingdom
Are you thinking of growing flowers for a living? Have you made a start and want to see how someone else does it?
Mill Pond Flower Farm has been growing and selling cut flowers wholesale and retail in the Scottish Borders since 2012. We operate on a 4 acre site, mostly outdoors, assisted by 2 polytunnels.
This outdoor workshop provides a guided explanation of artisan flower farming in the northern UK. We’ll be exploring the layout of the farm, why things are where they are & how it all works. You can see the size and scale of the flower farm, plus what’s happening in the autumn to make sure we have plenty of flowers for the next season. We’ll discuss the use of protection, shelter and cover, types of plants and flowers and the importance of understanding your soil and location. There will be demos of tools and equipment, plus plenty of time for looking at the detail and asking lots of questions.
We’ll provide hot refreshments, but the whole session will take place outdoors or in our polytunnels. Please dress for the weather, bring waterproofs and boots or wellies.
This session replaces the Introduction to Flower Farming Workshop we’ve run for the past 6 years and is intended to compliment our Introduction to Flower Farming online course which contains videos, basic growing information, how to get set up and where to sell your flowers.
