Now in it’s fourth year, this unique two day course on the business of wedding flowers is a very special collobaration with the Garden Gate Flower Company. With well over ten years of experience in growing and arranging wedding flowers between us we will be sharing our insight and skills to help you start or expand your wedding and event work.
Through our different approaches to wedding work we will discuss issues including marketing, consultations and pricing.
There will be plenty of informal discussion on the pleasures and pitfalls, floristry demonstrations and practical sessions on selecting your ‘palette of plants’ and how to use them with relaxed construction methods to create that dreamy bouquet.
On Day One, Rachel we will focus on the growing – how to choose suitable varieties to achieve a natural style, getting the balance of focal and filler right, keeping up with trends and how to achieve continuity of supply. Rachel will present how the combined ‘Buckets and Bouquets’ service has evolved alongside full wedding services and will demonstrate through case studies how it works and why it is so effective.
On Day Two, Becca and Maz of The Garden Gate Flower Company will begin the day by talking about their wedding design process and how to achieve the balance between being true to your own style and also accommodating your client’s needs. They will teach their signature style of loose, wild and seasonally inspired bridal bouquets using seasonal treasures like Ranunculus and anemones from on site. Expect to have to work and re-work your initial creation to build the right foundation, before being shown how to finish your bouquet with on-trend ribbons.
Following on from your bridal creation Becca & Maz will talk about social media and how they built their business and demonstrate a wedding table centrepiece using their bespoke-made Leach Pottery Ceramic. Each student will benefit from having their bridal bouquets captured in a still life setting for their own portfolio by Eva Nemeth.
A two course home cooked lunch inspired by ingredients sourced from the kitchen garden will be accompanied by plenty of tea/coffee and cake throughout both days. In addition, take home a collaborative tote bag of goodies.
If you have some energy left over at the end of Day One, join us for dinner at our local pub The Perch and Pike or an evening of flower-filled chat.
Dates: Tuesday & Wednesday 24-25th April 2018
