The Old Bakery has been our home for over 30 years. From an almost blank canvas, we have created a well-loved, interesting garden including original stonework and bricks from the long-gone baking ovens. The garden is an unusual shape and is made up of many unique areas, each with its own character. The latest update involved replacing an unused lawn bordering the road with native meadow plants. This is now flowering freely and, from the comments we get, gives much pleasure to many passers-by. Over the years of working in the garden my love of flowers has grown. What was a form of relaxation has now grown into an obsession – I'm sure my family would agree! I spent last winter researching the British flower growing community and have been completely won over by the joy of British flowers, grown without chemicals and with zero air miles. My locally grown seasonal flowers have a beautifully natural, garden-gathered appearance. Since the Spring I have been selling on Saturdays at our friendly local Country Market in Ross on Wye. And this summer I have started selling my flowers from a flower stall at the end of our drive. This has been a great success and I am also taking personalised orders. It is lovely to meet people and hear the story behind their flowery requests. It has been amazing to have spent the last year working with flowers in a garden that is my 'Happy Place'. I have learnt an amazing amount about flowers and how to grow them, and have really enjoyed the journey so far. Everyone has been so encouraging for which I am very grateful.
