My name is Bec Geden and I am a flower grower, based in the Chew Valley, just 20 minutes from Bath and Bristol. I grow in a field next to my home on our small holding in rural Somerset. I am passionate about UK biodiversity, and inspired by nature. I was previously an ecologist with over 20 years’ experience in the environmental sector before a career change into flower farming. When my family moved to the farm in 2019, we wanted to create a responsible small business that complemented the surrounding landscape and biodiversity; and provide a shared space and opportunities for local creatives. Recognising that more like-minded people are favouring products that are local, low mile and sustainably produced, we have converted half an acre of a field to a cut flower plot growing seasonal blooms. The flowers provide an important nectar source and homes for pollinators. The flower beds are managed with ‘no dig’ principles in mind, using recycled cardboard, compost and manure. This encourages the important earthworms, micro-organisms, and fungi that keep soil and plants healthy. We use only natural fertilisers and have reduced our use of chemicals as much as possible. My flowers are a mix of wild, meadow style blooms, and cottage garden classics. We predominantly grow for local florists who want to use local, sustainably grown flowers in their design; and locals who want to do their own flowers, for weddings or any other celebration, to whom we can provide buckets for collection from the farm. Buckets can be ordered direct from our website. We love to work with brides and florists and welcome visitors to the flower field. We are also working on a workshop space at the farm so we can offer more visitors a chance to play with wonderful, colourful scented British blooms, and truly understand what makes them worlds apart from imported flowers. Please get in touch for further details.
