We’re back at Flower School at RHS Hampton Court 4th-9th July
Inspired by the success of last year’s collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society, we’re delighted to be heading back to the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival on 4th-9th July to stage the RHS Flower School. Our members will be decorating the marquee this year with floral displays of locally-grown, seasonal, sustainable cut flowers and clouds of dried flowers and creating a mini flower farm around the marquee to illustrate the plot to vase ethos of the flower farming movement.
The RHS Flower School will host a free programme of floral demonstrations throughout the week. The morning line-up at 11am each day is set to feature the cream of the farmer-florist crop, members of Flowers from the Farm who grow and create their floral designs using flowers from their own plots: Wildly Beautiful Flowers, Hortus Poeticus, Joanna Game Flowers, Leigh Chappell Flowers, Nettlewood Flowers and Tin Shed Flowers.
The afternoon slots at 2pm will feature some of London’s finest floral designers including: Simon Lycett, Worm, Shane Connolly, Frida Kim, Bloom & Burn and Ivy Amelia.
Get involved
We’re delighted to announce to new features for this year’s Flower School: at 1.00pm daily, Flowers from the Farm members will be sharing insights in their ‘Introduction to Sowing and Growing’ sessions, and then at 4pm, a panel of growers will take to the stage to answer questions from flower-lovers and budding flower farmers in Flower Farmers’ Question Time. At 12 noon and 3pm every day, visitors wanting to get hands-on with British flowers will be invited to make their own buttonholes and flower corsages in workshop sessions.
Growers from across the South East will be on hand as Flowers from the Farm ambassadors to talk to visitors about their lives and businesses in flower farming and how to find local flower farmers to buy from using our ‘Find Flowers’ directory. There will be a spotlight on flower farming as a career in horticulture featuring flower farmers growing on rented and owned farmland, on allotments and in gardens of all sizes across the UK.
Debbie Scott, Co-Chair of Flowers from the Farm said:
“We are thrilled to be back at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival. Over 50 Flowers from the Farm members are teaming up to showcase creative floral design using the very best of seasonal, scented, sustainable cut flowers grown on their plots across the South-East of England. As a membership association, we want to show that British cut flowers are more accessible than ever. There are now almost 1000 independent flower farms across the UK bringing 85% of the UK population within 30 miles of a flower farmer.”
